On Tuesday, Abercrombie and Fitch offered "substantial payment" to MTV's "Jersey Shore" cast members, specifically Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, to refrain from wearing their product.

"We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino's association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans," an A&F spokesperson said in the statement.

Some thought brilliant publicity stunt, but the street didn't see any humor in this, um, situation.

Abercrombie and Fitch (ANF) posted one of Wednesday's biggest percentage decreases after trading stopped on the NYSE, falling nearly 8.7 percent to close at $64.87.



Our brothers and sisters at MTV Remote Control raise a good point that may give Abercrombie more reason to sweat. A good deal of the "Jersey Shore" fans are probably curled up at home in their A&F clothes watching The Situation's adventures each week. Does that mean they should stop buying the brand also?

Abercrombie asks 'The Situation' to shop elsewhere

NEW ALBANY, Ohio (AP) — Abercrombie & Fitch is offering to pay to Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and his fellow "Jersey Shore" cast members so they'll stop wearing the brand on the show.

The clothing company says in a news release posted Tuesday that it's concerned that having Sorrentino seen in its clothing could cause "significant damage" to the company's image.

Abercrombie says a connection to The Situation goes against the "aspirational nature" of its brand and may be "distressing" to customers. The Ohio-based retailer says it has offered a "substantial payment" to Sorrentino and producers of the MTV show so he'll wear something else.

The company says it also is making the offer to others in the hard-partying cast.

An MTV spokeswoman did not immediately return messages for comment on Wednesday.

It's been more than five years since the Red Hot Chili Peppers released Stadium Arcadium, but later this month, they'll finally return with I'm With You, their hotly anticipated new album. And obviously, this is a fairly big deal.

Which is why it's only fitting that MTV is rolling out the red carpet for RHCP, with the exclusive premiere of their video for "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie," the first single off You. The clip will debut live on MTV and MTV2 on Wednesday, August 17, at 7:53 p.m. ET/PT.

Immediately following the debut of "Maggie," the band will sit down with MTV News for an in-depth interview, to stream live on MTV.com. And since we know you've been waiting a long time for this, we're also allowing you to get in on the conversation. "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" recently rocketed to the top of Billboard's Alternative Radio chart, giving the band their 12th #1 on Modern Rock radio (which, just in case you're keeping score at home, is a record no one can even come close to matching). I'm With You, their 10th studio album (and first with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer), is due in stores on August 30.

Waka Flocka Flame Explains Retirement Talk: 'Yeah, I'm gonna retire — from the industry,' Waka says on 'RapFix Live.'

Jay-Z famously said that he would retire after he dropped his debut album Reasonable Doubt way back in 1996, and we all saw how that worked out. With only one solo album under his belt, could Waka Flocka Flame do what Jigga couldn't?

Last month, the "Hard in Da Paint" rapper tweeted "This game 2 fake I [quit] rap after this year," but when Sway asked Waka about his post-rap plans, he elaborated on the statement. 

 

"Nah, I am gonna retire. I'm gonna retire from the industry," Waka said on last week's "RapFix Live." "I'm not gonna kick it in the industry no more. I'm gonna do what I wanna do, how I started like from the beginning. I'm gonna do exactly what I wanna do."

Flocka didn't exactly say that he'd quit making music, however. Instead, the Atlanta-based rapper said he would go on to operate outside the music industry's traditional avenues.

"I don't expect to win awards, I don't expect to go to big venues. I'm gonna really help the youth — this is what I started doin' it for, so I'm gonna finish doin' it," he said. "Yeah, I'm gonna retire — from the industry."

For now, though, fans can tide themselves over with Ferrari Boyz, Waka's joint album with mentor Gucci Mane, which dropped last Tuesday. "Man, we just came to smash the game — point blank, period," Waka told Sway when asked why the duo made Ferrari Boyz. "They chasin' our sound, folks' singles is on our sound, and we might as well just go 'head and give it all to 'em."

Pauly D wants love life guidance

It appears that Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio can clean up for morning television. He certainly did an efficient job for his appearance on TODAY  -- you'd hardly know that he was the kind of guy who would wake up his roommates with a horn, or who will sit chained to a pole while Britney Spears grooves and grinds for him, or who gleefully asserts that his is the best body on "Jersey Shore."

It turns out that Pauly D can charm everybody, including Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, who asked him about whether the "Shore" folks trashed their Florence, Italy digs ("Maybe. A little bit," he grinned sheepishly) and who couldn't resist touching his solid-looking, tall-standing hair. What's in it? "A lot of gel," he admitted. "I like to keep my hair on point, like my style."

He also touched briefly on appearing on Britney Spears' Femme Fatale tour, where he puts his DJ skills to work opening for both Spears and Nicki Minaj. But Pauly D really may have won over a lot of hearts -- well, at least the hearts that weren't too hardened by the "Shore" cast's GTL lifestyle and hot tub games -- when he admitted that he feels like the oft-derided Snooki has settled down.

"Snooki is a great girl, and she was looking for the right one," he told Hoda and Kathie Lee. "For a girl it looks bad when you're looking a lot. I told her, I want to screen these guys first. She's like a little sister to me now. I want to meet the guy first."

"Jersey Shore" has been bigger than ever this season, which has the cast making mayhem in Italy -- the season premiere's Aug. 11 ratings brought in more viewers than most other networks (8.8 million), and more than the Republican candidates' debate on Fox. 

"The fact that people actually watch us, it's great," said Pauly D. "But it's a lot of people."

Still, not everything is coming up roses for Pauly D, who says he could use a little guidance in his own love life. He admitted he'd like to have someone out there vetting potential girls -- the way he would for Snooki's dates. "I need someone to approve of my girls, because I don't have anyone yet," he said, nodding at his hostesses. "All the good ones are taken."

'Jersey Shore' Stars Say 'GTL Was Hard' In Italy: 'Basic amenities that we are used to over here, like walking to the store and buying a Gatorade, you can't do that there,' Vinny tells MTV News.

Just because the stars of "Jersey Shore" didn't have any luck finding love in Italy doesn't mean they didn't have an unforgettable time.

"Italy was awesome," JWoww told MTV News. "We got to experience a different culture, different lifestyle and amazing architecture."

Of course, being overseas, the cast had to adapt to a new way of life, which proved to be difficult in some cases. "It was different than I thought," Pauly D said. "The normal stuff like GTL was hard to do, but we had a great time."

Vinny added: "Basic amenities that we are used to over here, like walking to the store and buying a Gatorade, you can't do that there. If you want to get a cappuccino and sit down for a four-course meal, you can do that."

Italy isn't just known for decadent meals; it's also known for wine — which Snooki became very accustomed to. "The wine was phenomenal there," Snooki said. "All we did was drink wine. The meatballs love the wine."
But they couldn't drink too much of it, since Florence's famous cobblestone streets proved to be a bit of challenge for the girls. "The wine, cobblestones and heels — not a good combination," Snooki said. "Meatballs rolling in Italy."

We all know when you go on vacation, you have to bring home a souvenir. So what did the Situation bring back from Florence?

"I was able to take home some of the language, which is important to me, 'cause my grandparents are from Italy and I am 100 percent Italiano," the Situation said. "It just so happens I have green eyes and a six-pack; I was born that way."

Now that fans have fully digested Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne, they can look forward to the duo's video for "Otis," which premieres Thursday at 8:56 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV.com and BET.

On Wednesday's "RapFix Live," Sway Calloway sat down with New York's Power 105.1 radio host Angela Yee and MTV News' Rob Markman to discuss the just-released teaser for the Spike Jonze-directed video.
"You can see Jay-Z looks excited, doing things I never seen him do before in that one second — and Kanye as well," Yee said of the brief clip. "Well, Kanye is always a little excited, but I think it's good to see the two of them together too."

The 15-second clip shows Jay-Z and Kanye West on set with pyrotechnics and not much else. Viewers see Jay gripping his red snapback cap low and then Kanye screaming with excitement while grabbing the camera with a huge American flag draped in the background. The flag is similar to the "Otis" single art by Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci.

On Wednesday morning, fans were already tweeting about looking forward to the "Otis" premiere. "Just read that Spike Jonze is directing the video for Kanye West and Jay Z's new single 'Otis.' That should be something special," tweeted fan @ChrisBevan89. "The teaser to @kanyewest and Hov 'Otis' video looks crazy," added @Above_Par.

"They got Riccardo Tisci from Givenchy to do the [album] cover art, you have the American flag on the 'Otis' cover art, and you see a little bit of that in the video," Markman said. "They're giving you clues along the way, but we're seeing 1/20th of the picture that we're probably going to get tomorrow."

The release of WTT has been very exciting for the hip-hop world, and Yee recalled where she was Sunday evening in the hours leading up to the album's drop. "I was in my bed at, like, 11 o'clock on Twitter, and I think at 11:30 it was available on iTunes on Sunday night, and everybody just went crazy," Yee said. "Like the whole entire night, people were just staying up downloading the whole entire album."

Markman said Thursday night's "Otis" premiere will cause similar excitement. "It's going to be an event," he said. "The way everybody gathered around iTunes to get the album, everybody is going to gather around their TV or MTV.com and sit in for this event and watch the video."

Yee has already made her plans: "I will be in front of the TV to watch the premiere of 'Otis' on MTV."

It's going to be a hot summer. Just ask G.O.O.D. Music recording artist Big Sean, whose first album, Finally Famous, debuted at #3 on the Billboard albums chart after it dropped in June. Now Sean is setting things off as the first of MTV Jams' 2011 Fab 5.

Conceived in 2005 on MTV Jams, the Fab 5 is a collection of the most outstanding new hip-hop artists of the year who have made a visual impact on the road to releasing their debut albums. Fab 5 alumni include Juelz Santana, Tony Yayo, Paul Wall, Young Jeezy, Kid Cudi and Drake. This year MTV Jams, MTV News and Sucker Free will bring you 2011's hottest new hip-hop upstarts, and Big Sean is up first!

In the past year, Sean has emerged from being a G.O.O.D. Music understudy to one of the main stars on Kanye West's squad. With his playful flow and witty lyrics, Sean proved this year that he can make hit records when he snagged the #1 spot on Billboard's rap singles chart with "My Last" featuring Chris Brown. He also just shot the video for his next single, "Marvin & Chardonnay." The K. West and Roscoe Dash-assisted track is poised to pick up where his last hit left off.

But who is Big Sean exactly? In his own words:

"Big Sean is a Detroit player, a dreamer. Somebody who went against the grain who realized following your heart is way more important than following your head. And somebody who when I look back on life, I don't have to say, 'I wish I coulda, woulda, shoulda did anything.' "

The pint-sized MC got his moniker because of a 6'8" friend who had the same name. "His name was Sean too, so they called me Big Sean and him Little Sean, just to be funny," he said. "It's way fresher for me to be little and people have to call me big."

Since rolling with Team Kanye, things have only gotten bigger, and the fame has brought about some strange occurrences for Sean, especially on Twitter. He recalled a time when someone posted a childhood picture, lifted from his grandmother's house, on the social networking site. "I'm like, 'How the hell did you get this picture?' " he said. "The Internet is powerful; it's crazy."

Wise words indeed. Sean also reveals that if he were down to his last $10, he'd splurge on ... who else but himself? "I would spend it on the best album in the world: Finally Famous." That he is!

Lil Wayne Says He'd Retire To Be A Better Dad: 'I'm not gonna Brett Favre y'all,' Lil Wayne tells MTV News about his retirement from rap.

Too $hort tried calling it quits but is now working on his 19th album. Jay-Z's 2003 retirement lasted about three years before he returned to rap in 2006. And now Lil Wayne is talking about hanging up the mic. Will he actually do it?

During a radio interview with Hot 97's Angie Martinez in March, the 28-year-old said he's walking away at 35. Then Weezy switched up, telling XXL that he would be "gone by 31." Now, Lil Tunechi, who dropped his Sorry 4 the Wait mixtape on Wednesday, tells MTV News that he isn't sure when exactly he will walk away from rap.

"I'm not sure; I'm not gonna Brett Favre y'all," Wayne said referring to the former Green Bay Packers quarterback who finally handed the NFL his walking papers in January after years of talking about it. "I'm not gonna draw it all the way out the whole year: 'We wondering, is Wayne gonna do this?' But the honest answer is I don't know."

Wayne — who has already recorded eight solo albums, sold more than 10 million records and won four Grammy Awards — said he wants to focus less on making hits and more on his kids. His oldest daughter, Reginae, is a budding performer herself at age 12, and Weezy wants his little girl to eventually stunt like her daddy.

"I'm so settled in my life right now," he told us. "I have my kids; they're wonderful. My daughter has her career ahead of her now. I have to focus on that, and I have to put the same focus that I put in my career. ... I want to become a better father, I want to become a better man to my woman, and those things take time. and time takes away from this. So the honest answer to that [retirement] question is, I don't know. Maybe so."

Weezy's ninth solo album, Tha Carter IV is one of the year's most-anticipated LPs and is set to be released on August 29. Will it be his last? Fans have to wait and see.

'16 and Pregnant' recap: Allie must live with boyfriend's drug-addict mom after parents abandon her - by Kathleen Perricone DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

In the season finale of "16 and Pregnant," Allie struggles to deal with a careless boyfriend and his mother's drug-fueled abuse.

For the 90-minute season finale of "16 and Pregnant," MTV really saved the best for last.

Allie is a high school senior from Pasadena, Tex., who got pregnant by her sophomore boyfriend Joey after dating just two months.

And after she breaks the news to her father (her mother inexplicably lives in New Jersey), he tells her to put the baby up for adoption -- or get out.

So Allie ends up at Joey's house, the last place a pregnant girl should be. Joey's mom, Yolanda, is a pill-popper with a sharp tongue and violent temper.

And that worries Allie. She's not only concerned to be around that stress while pregnant, but she's terrified to bring her son into the situation once he's born. But for the time being, she has no choice.

With no parental figures to turn to in Texas, Allie talks daily to her mom Lauren, who promises her daughter that she will travel from New Jersey when she's in the hospital, although she may miss the birth.

Even though she's so far away, Lauren tries to do what she can. She sends Allie a check to buy things for the baby. But it doesn't get them very far -- she only sends $20! (a paltry amount considering she later takes a limo to the airport).

Things aren't much better back at Joey's house. His poor excuse for a mom has been on-edge and abruptly decides she wants to be alone all weekend -- even though she also has a husband and younger son -- so she sends them to her mother Belen's house to live.

While there, Yolanda asks Allie to get her a banana. The seven-months-pregnant teen is too exhausted to get up and bring it over to her, so she tosses it onto the couch -- launching World War III with an already agitated Yolanda.

"Why should I take care of you?" Yolanda spews. "You ain't my daughter! F*** you, bitch! Get the f*** out!"

When Allie doesn't respond, Yolanda charges at her -- but luckily Joey steps in before she reaches his girlfriend.

"I'll f*** you up and I'll f*** her up too," shouts Yolanda. "I don't give a f*** that she's pregnant!"

Realizing her daughter is unstable, Belen tells Joey and Allie they can stay with her for up to a year if they need to -- and they gladly take her up on the offer.

Suddenly two weeks later, Yolanda starts calling her son non-stop, telling him to come over because she has big news: she's going to rehab. After a 10-year addiction to opiates, she's finally seeking help so they can have a better relationship. Joey and Allie seem incredulous -- because she has said the same thing before.

One week before she's set to give birth, Allie's mom calls to break the news you could tell was coming: she can't get off work after all and will miss her grandson's birth. Not only that, but she won't be able to come visit until the second week of January (it was mid-December at the time).

Luckily, Yolanda is fresh out of rehab and sincerely trying to be there for Allie as she lays in the hospital bed about to give birth.

The same can't be said for Joey. The teen sleeps as Allie fights through contractions and having her water broken. When he finally wakes up, the labor is kicking into high-gear -- and so is reality. He seems petrified and one point and thinks he's going to pass out.

Once little Aydenn pops out, Allie excitedly texts her mom the good news. Her response: "Get him circumcised! OMG!"

She also texts a photo to her estranged dad, who couldn't care less.

Once back at home, Joey takes on the same aloof attitude as everyone else around Allie. She stays up with the baby all night, while he sleeps.

After a few weeks, Joey returns to high school -- and his regular life of football practice, homework and video games. No where in his schedule does he attempt to add in fatherly duties.

"He doesn't seem interested in the baby," Allie tells a friend. "He's not ready for the responsibility and it's a little late."

Allie's mom Lauren finally arrives in Texas to visit her daughter -- the first time she's seen her in a year.

And the first time she's met Joey. When Lauren asks him about his plans after high school, he replies, "Probably like fast food or something."

Rightfully so, Lauren is concerned with Joey's lack of ambition and desire to be a father and implores her daughter to come back to New Jersey -- which Allie says she may consider if things don't change.

As Allie prepares to head back to school, she tells Joey he's going to have to help her more with Aydenn, especially at night, if she's going to graduate. He promises to pitch in a little more -- but of course, it never happens.

When she confronts him a few days later, he says shamelessly, "To tell you the truth, I'm kind of lazy."

That's putting it mildly. Nine weeks after the birth of their son, Allie says things have gone from "bad to worse" with Joey, who now sleeps on the couch as she gets up with Aydenn all night.

Then he starts sending her ridiculous text messages while she's in school, like "You never have time for me."
At that, Allie realizes she doesn't need two babies and decides to end things once and for all with Joey. As she packs her bags, he sobs. "I tried to feed him, I tried to change him."

But trying just isn't enough.

Allie goes to stay with a friend nearby until the end of the school year, when she will then move back to New Jersey to be closer to her mom.

"I don't think Joey was ready for a baby," Allie muses.

Unfortunately, she has to be -- while he gets to continue being a carefree teenager.

'Jersey Shore' cast wants more money -- again

While Snooki and the gang are still living it up in Florence, Italy, for the fourth season of “Jersey Shore,” they’re already making plans for season five.

Plan one: Move back to Seaside Heights. Plan two: Get paid even more money.

Just last month MTV confirmed “Shore” would return to its Seaside roots next time around, and today TMZ reports the cast is negotiating new contracts and bigger salaries to do so.

That's right. It seems the $100,000 per person, per episode payday the group worked out in the spring just isn't enough any longer. According to insiders, “Shore” regulars wouldn’t agree to anything relating to the fifth season until fresh deals were made — despite MTV’s intention to carry over the current contracts. 

Only three seasons of “Jersey Shore” have aired so far, but these negotiations allegedly mark the fifth time the GTL crowd has asked the network for more money.
